SCHOOL- COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP AND WAYS OF UTILISATION-
SCHOOL TO COMMUNITY AND COMMUNITY TO SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION

T he socializing value of the community organization is immense. The school should be developed as a community centre or “miniature community” by making its programmes relevant to the life, needs and aspirations. The relationship between the school and the community can be strengthened through close co- operation and mutual give and take between them.
The term community is derived from two Latin words-com and munis which means coming together and to serve respectively. Hence community means coming together and to serve respectively. Community is a unit of society. It generally means the immediate neighborhood environment of an individual. It is a group of people leading a common inter dependent life in a definite locality.
The term school is derived from an old Greek word meaning for leisure. The school in modern time is rightly conceived as a part of the social system. The school is the most important formal agency for the education of growing generation. In short the school should be an idealized epitome, a model for community.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP

The relationship between the school and the community can be strengthened through close co-operation and mutual give and take between them. In a democratic set up such a relationship is not only essential but also imperative. The school is for the community and the community is for school. Thus there should be a two way traffic between the school and community in utilizing their resources. There should be a free flow of ideas and free exchange of facilities. Different channels of co-operation and media of communication should be made free and open for facilitating such co-operation and collaboration. Members of the community engaged in various vocations should be invited to the school to talk about their occupation. This can be a part of vocational guidance. In the same way the knowledge of the teachers should benefit the villagers also. This mutual  co-operation and collaboration between the school and the community is desirable for the democratization and improvement.
EDUCATIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMUNITY
Ø Community socializes the child.
Ø Community teaches its members desirable behavior pattern and values.
Ø Community assesses the development the developmental needs of the area and provides appropriate educational facilities.
Ø Community establishes different types of educational institutions suitable to the localities.
Ø Community exercises control over the education by formulating the objectives, the curriculum, etc.
Ø Community co-ordinates the effort of various educational agencies in the area.
Ø Community lays down educational standards of the pupil in schools.
Ø Community gives financial support to educational institutions.
Ø Community encourages other agencies of education like libraries, youth clubs, mahila mandals etc. which contribute to education.
Ø Community provides educational and vocational guidance and encourages research and experimentation in various fields of education.
In our country the major community organizations are the cultural institutions, sports clubs, arts clubs, political parties, YMCA, trade unions, co-operative societies etc are regarded as important educational agencies as they exert vital education influence on their members. The community is much responsible for modifying the behavior of the individual. The community can influence the basic curriculum and general organization of the school.

SCHOOL TO COMMUNITY

The school communities such as scouts and guides, students political parties, NCC, NSS, SPC,Red cross society, etc. are regarded as important educational agencies as they exert vital educational influence on their members as well as the society. These school communities carry out numerous socially useful and development activities in their localities and remote areas. The schools are basically for moulding socially committed human resources to satisfy the needs of the community or society.
The knowledge of the teachers should be benefiting the illiterates in the community. So many teachers and students were involved in the literacy programmes which had conducted in Kerala.

CONCLUSION

The school should be developed as a miniature community by making its programmes relevant to the life, needs and aspirations. The relationship between the school and the community can be strengthened through close co-operation and mutual give and take between them. This mutual  co-operation and collaboration between the school and the community is desirable for the democratization and improvement.

From where we get oxygen for our existence?                                                                                                                                                Atmosphere
Yes, atmosphere contains oxygen and many other gases. Can you name any other gases on the                                                                                                                                                 Nitrogen, carbon dioxide
  atmosphere?
Yes,very good..today we are going to study more about atmosphere and its composition.

Teacher defines, “ Atmosphere  is an air or gaseous envelope that surrounds our earth”. It
Extends to a height of several kilometers from the surface of the earth.
Teacher then asks, do you have any idea about, how this atmosphere will be held to the earth?
It is because of the gravitational force of our earth.
Have you ever noticed the dress code of aeronauts or mountaineers?                                                                                                                                                Yes.
They wear heavy jackets and oxygen cylinders. Right?                                                                                                                                                Yes
Do you know why?                                                                                                                                                No
The temperature and pressure conditions are not uniform in everywhere.
Teacher , explains when we reach about 5 km high on a mountain we feels difficulty in breathi
-ng, because of the coolness and atmospheric pressure. So, the mountaineers wears special type
Of clothes and carriers oxygen cylinder with them. Like the same, an astronaut wears space suit
And oxygen cylinder due to the atmospheric conditions.
This atmosphere has several components.
                                         Composition of Atmosphere (BB)
Teacher then explains that, our atmosphere has several gases includes ; Nitrogen, Oxygen,
Argon, CO2, Hydrogen etc. Now we could analyse the percentages of these gases in our
Atmosphere . Teacher, shows the drawn chart of the composition of the atmosphere.
      Composition of Atmosphere
Constituents                in %
1) Gases
·        Nitrogen             78 %
·        Oxygen               21 %
·        CO2                    0.035
·        Hydrogen          0.00005
2) Water vapour         0.1 – 4.0
3) Dust particles
  ACTIVITY – II
Teacher then asks to do the activity with the help of the chart. Then she gives questions to find    Students do the activity;
Out,  1) Which has the largest proportion?                                                                                          Nitrogen
          2) Which is leastly composed in atmosphere?                                                                           Hydrogen
Teacher concludes the activity by repeating the answers with description.
Teacher says, other than gases, water vapour and dust particles are also found in the atmosphere.
Dust particles reach the atmosphere by winds and from the burning up of comets. These water
Vapour and dust particles helps the formations of clouds, fogs and precipitation(rainfall) .
water vapour condensed in to fog and clouds and clouds rains on our earth. The dust particles
becomes ‘ Condensation Nuclie’ (BB), which helps the water vapour to condense. It is called
Aerosols’(BB). Teacher concludes the class by summarizing the facts again.

SUMMARY
Atmosphere is the air envelope that surrounds the earth for several kilometers. It is held to the earth due to the gravitational force. The atmospheric pressure and temperature are not same in everywhere. Atmosphere is composed of several gases, water vapour and dust particles.
