SCHOOL-
COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP AND WAYS OF UTILISATION-
SCHOOL
TO COMMUNITY AND COMMUNITY TO SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
T he socializing value of the community organization
is immense. The school should be developed as a community centre or “miniature
community” by making its programmes relevant to the life, needs and
aspirations. The relationship between the school and the community can be
strengthened through close co- operation and mutual give and take between them.
The term community is derived from two Latin words-com and munis which means coming together and to serve respectively. Hence
community means coming together and to serve respectively. Community is a unit
of society. It generally means the immediate neighborhood environment of an
individual. It is a group of people leading a common inter dependent life in a
definite locality.
The term school is derived from an old Greek word
meaning for leisure. The school in modern time is rightly conceived as a part
of the social system. The school is the most important formal agency for the
education of growing generation. In short the school should be an idealized
epitome, a model for community.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP
The relationship between the school and the
community can be strengthened through close co-operation and mutual give and
take between them. In a democratic set up such a relationship is not only
essential but also imperative. The school is for the community and the
community is for school. Thus there should be a two way traffic between the
school and community in utilizing their resources. There should be a free flow
of ideas and free exchange of facilities. Different channels of co-operation
and media of communication should be made free and open for facilitating such
co-operation and collaboration. Members of the community engaged in various
vocations should be invited to the school to talk about their occupation. This
can be a part of vocational guidance. In the same way the knowledge of the
teachers should benefit the villagers also. This mutual co-operation and collaboration between the
school and the community is desirable for the democratization and improvement.

as important educational agencies as they exert vital education influence on
their members. The community is much responsible for modifying the behavior of
the individual. The community can influence the basic curriculum and general
organization of the school.
SCHOOL TO COMMUNITY
The school communities such as
scouts and guides, students political parties, NCC, NSS, SPC,Red cross society,

educational influence on their members as well as the society. These school
communities carry out numerous socially useful and development activities in
their localities and remote areas. The schools are basically for moulding
socially committed human resources to satisfy the needs of the community or
society.
The knowledge of the teachers
should be benefiting the illiterates in the community. So many teachers and
students were involved in the literacy programmes which had conducted in
Kerala.
CONCLUSION
The school should be developed as a miniature
community by making its programmes relevant to the life, needs and aspirations.
The relationship between the school and the community can be strengthened
through close co-operation and mutual give and take between them. This
mutual co-operation and collaboration
between the school and the community is desirable for the democratization and
improvement.
